Self employment does have some benefits such as control of the money you make, the hours you work, and the amount of energy that you put into your own business. There are people who do quite well working for themselves and there are people who are destined to fail. The question you need to ask yourself is are you prepared for the struggles and the stress of having your own business.
Below I have a list of people who will be destined to fail owning their own business. I have pulled this list from the top of my head after doing some research in businesses that have failed and the people behind them. I am sure I could come up with some other examples of people but this should give you a good understanding of how true you are to your business.
1) If you have no imagination or a will to develop your own ideas then you are better off in a day job where you just do a job and go home. All good self employed people have the ability to create there own way to make a living. This will require you to have a special skill that your average person does not have. You must have the ability to create and the love for your creation to let the whole world know about it.
2) You have to have a good sense of money. If you are just thinking of going into business without any idea of how to handle any kind of money, then you are doomed from the start. You may have to bargain or trade with your clients to keep your costs down. This is a necessity when you are starting out because you have no residual flow of money to spend.
3) Every good business needs a good task manager, you must be able to handle multiple tasks at a time. You are the boss of your future every decision you make today will effect the out come of tomorrow, and possibly the money you will make. You must be able to concentrate on what you are doing and do all things well enough to make tomorrow a goal to be better that today.
4) The most important thing is that you have to have passion for what you do, believe in it, and nourish it like it was your own baby. You do not have to do this in a 9-5 job because someone has already done this for you. The only difference is that your future depends on them, and your pay check as well depends on the boss you have. You may have to spend long hours on your business, do things you do not want to do, possibly even stretch yourself to the limit. These are requirements of starting a new business.
Contrary of what some newbies have learned starting a new business is not all flowers and cake walks. It is a test of your will to survive and your commitment to one thing to see it to the end. As previously mentioned there are people who are destined to the 9-5 and there are people who have the desire to be themselves and prove they can stand on their own two feet. Now that you have read this which one are you?
