AP STARTS TO UNSPIN THE NUMBERS AFTER HOURS.

WASHINGTON (AP) — On the surface, the government seemed to signal Thursday that more Americans are finding jobs:

Fewer people are receiving jobless aid largely because more of them have exhausted their standard unemployment benefits, which typically last 26 weeks. IN fact, show the proportion of recipients who used up their jobless benefits averaged 49 percent in May, a record.

yes, exactly HOLY CRAP, these are their raw numbers!.

These weekly numbers are very volatile. The numbers the press picks up are massaged to smooth things out. To provide a comparison to what would be normal i took a median going back to 2004. Instead of smoothing, you can see what is normal. The other half of the puzzle is how many jobs are added, I would say few and far between.

Per week? Holy crap - they are really spinning those numbers down.

Bottom line, we have more unemployed and where are the jobs. Mostly people are losing good jobs and at best they get a bad one if at all. More likely they go on unemployment. This is not a normal economic time. It won’t be over any time soon.

Official rate approaching 10% now (no low figure in itself). How’s the atmosphere on the street over there wepollock? Everybody elated at the greenshoots or has official optimism bypassed the real world? I suppose it’ll vary quite a bit from place to place.

Pity the governments choking off real recovery.

I am surprised people arent getting stuck into their politicians a lot more. Graft and waffle ’seems’ so blatant

The spread between mortgages and the 10 year just exploded…
